I'm not even going to pretend I know what that's about; the US censors are such selective prudes. I recently watched an American medical documentary in which a *dramatisation* of a surgery - i.e. no real blood, no real surgery - had to be in black and white and with the allegedly squicky bits blurred out.

Pretty much, yes. Though 'avtanDIl and the mIl'oD veDDIr SuvwI' both get the sun-like comparisons throughout the poem as well so it gets awful confusing at times.
