I don't know how "turtle-like" a {la'SIv} is, but in my dialect
(Canadian) of English, a turtle lives in the water.  The land-dwelling
creature featured in the story you related is a "tortoise".

Wikipedia tells me, however, that perhaps American English uses
"turtle" as a catch-all for sea-turtles, tortoises, and terrapins, so
perhaps {la'SIv} is equally broad as well:

(To add to the confusion further, the other character in the story is
a "hare", not a "rabbit".)
