Consider the implied object of "prepare for, be alerted to" is the thing you must focus your attention on. Adding {-egh} makes you both subject and object of the verb. {jIqIp'egh} means I hit myself. I'm the hitter and the one hit. 

{jIghuH'egh}, as Sustel explains, means you are the one being alerted and the thing you are being alerted to. You are the one preparing and the one being prepared for. It might have worked as {ghuH'eghmoH}, so you'd be the one causing yourself to be prepared (for something else), but the suffix {-rup} is much more direct. The focus should be more on acting than preparing to act. Preparation is so common for a Klingon that it can be built into any verb with a suffix.
