  nujDajDaq mar'egh ghu
the baby sucks its big toe (HQ 10.2)

  nujDajDaq rIl'egh ghu
the baby sucks its thumb (HQ 10.2)

(HQ 10.2:8-9): Similarly, {nujDajDaq rIl'egh ghu}, literally "at his/her mouth, the baby uses at him/herself his/her thumb", is used for "the baby sucks its thumb".

[More toe verbs! See my previous post.]

Klingon scientist J'Dan criticized the influence the Federation had on the Empire: "The blood of all Klingons has become water! [We have turned into a nation of mewling babies!]". (TKW 34; cf. TNG "The Drumbeat")

{ghu} "baby" may(?) be related to {ghubDaQ} "first-born child". It's possible that word final {b} was dropped over time. Cf. also {puqloD wa'Dich} in the paq'batlh:

  yatlh luqara' puqloD wa'DIch qenglI'
Lukara, pregnant of their first-born son (PB 184-5)
