Not necessarily. First, YOU are not a beginner any more. Next, in my 
opinion even beginners should see that languages are not always one to one.

I can give a strong example from arabic, which does not have the verbs 
"to be" nor "to have". When you want to say "I have a book", {*aindi 
kitab} it's actually "the book is at my side" - but literally it's even 
just "side-mine book". That may be confusing, but you just need to get 
used to it. And learn it. Klingon also has those strange constructions. 
I'm sure that you have gotten used to translate {tu'lu'} as "there is", 
forgetting that it literally means "one discovers it". Don't you? :-)

That may be true for absolute beginners, but it should not stop any one 
from learning. Of course a beginner should not start with Hamlet, but 
skipping canon phrases is never a good advice. On the contrary: it helps 
you see the structure of the language.
