Some of you might be keeping tabs on the date. I know I am.

June 1, 2014 is the thirtieth anniversary of the theatrical release of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. To us, the date is significant because it is the first time Okrandian Klingon was used.

TKD did not come out in the paq SuD tIQform until 1985, and the paq chIS did not emerge in print with the addendum until 1992 - we had our chance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that book some time ago. However, the first strains of recognisable Okrandian tlhIngan Hol first emerged in this movie, on June 1, 1984.

One week from tomorrow, as a matter of fact.

Thirty years from the first time we heard Valkris declaim qa'van De' vIje' rIntaH,and Christopher Lloyd call his unfortunate, vapourised, ex-gunner a Ha'DIbaH. Thirty years to the day of Maltz' capture, of course.


And it is thirty years, indeed, to the day we first heard Qapla'.


I've got plans to write up a blog post to commemorate this event. Does anybody else have anything planned for that day?
