Trek trivia:
"A Klingon communicator sends a signal through subspace radio. Older models were susceptible to radiation." (S19).  One was seen clearly in TOS "Errand of Mercy", TOS "Elaan of Troyius" and ST3.  In TNG etc. a Klingon communicator pin was worn on the uniform sleeve.
