Yes, I wouldn't be terribly put out if we learned that it is an
extension of the prefix trick, or another kind of "implied ditransitive"
verb property.
On the other hand, I cringe sometimes because it's easy to get rules
that mimic English usage (as back-fits to goofs), but much harder to get
rules that say "it DOESN'T work the way an English speaker might expect."
