KGT 95:  Domestic {HIq} is distilled from a number of different kinds of grain ({tIr}), with some additional constituents (of both plant and animal origin, including {'Iw}, "blood") adding flavor and strength.

Grain is used in Klingon cuisine:

KGT 89f.:  ... if [the meat] is fresh, the 'cook' may {pID} it, which involves coating it with herbed granulated cartilage (not necessarily from the same animal) mixed with some kind of {tIr} (grain) and doing very little else. The name of the granulated cartilage is {ngat}, which has also come to mean gunpowder. Meat prepared in this way is sometimes described as {wamwI' Ha'DIbaH} (hunter's meat), but the specific animal name is usually used instead of the word {Ha'DIbaH} (meat)

KGT 93:  A particularly popular dish, {tlhombuS}, requires that the cook coat a block of {tlhagh} with a mixture of {ngat} (herbed granulated cartilage) and {tIr} (grain) and then briefly immerse the block into the already boiling fat, just until the coating hardens.

And let's not forget about the {'Iwchab} "blood pie":

  "Many Klingon families traditionally serve blood pie on the Day of Honor." (VOY "Day of Honor")

The pronunciation of this phrase must be different in most dialects for Okrand goes on to say in "Power Klingon" that saying it correctly demonstrates that you know the current dialect.  It also suggests that the dish is fairly widespread on Qo'noS.  In fact, in KCD we're told that {ro'qegh'Iwchab} is "A much-favored Klingon dish, difficult to prepare properly. There are many regional variations of this dish. The blood feud between the House of Rengath and the House of Dor began when warriors of each house claimed to have the better recipe."

or {chabmey} in general:

  "At a qep'a' a few years ago, we asked Marc Okrand about this, and he said that {chab} would work for this. The word means any baked bread or crust sort of food. So far in the Farsajii morning meeting we've learned that the Klingons control local grain sales, but Mahoun is confident he can negotiate his way around that.
