It's not just different languages. Some native speakers of English
would prefer to answer in what you called the Japanese way, treating
the grammar as if it followed strictly logical rules. Most such people
will probably recognize the ambiguity and give a more detailed and
helpful answer than a simple Yes or No. That's exactly how I would
respond in Klingon to what you've labeled as a negative polarity
question.

A: chop.
