It's defined as "wreck" not "to be wrecked", which suggests the
latter. We don't know for sure, though.

(I know that "wreck" can be used intransitively, as in "the ship
wrecked on the shore", but that's a relatively rare usage. "The ship
was wrecked on the shore" is more common, and if Okrand had intended
it as a "to be" verb, he'd have defined it as one.)
