The basic answer to your question is: Yes, you can.

I want to reiterate some advice from ghunchu'wI' about the so-called "SAO."
To think of this as some strange category of sentence of its own (with its
own relationship to the grammar as a whole) is overcomplicating the
situation. <'e'> is a pronoun that stands in for a sentence.

So, if a verb has an object that object can potentially be <'e'>. It
doesn't matter one way or the other if there is also a neH present.
