HQ 5.1 p.10: The word {qa'meH}, clearly a shortened form of {quvqa'meH}, was originally used only in the construction of {qa'meH vIttlhegh} ["replacement proverb"], but, though historically two verb suffixes, it has become accepted as a noun in its own right, meaning replacement in the sense of something that takes over for or is used instead of something that is gone or that has been lost. It is not used for a temporary substitute or a stand-in; the word for that is {lIw}.

Similar words:

lIw substitute, stand-in, temporary surrogate (n)
velqa' replica (n)

ghantoH model, example, pattern (n)
["Maltz is assuming this refers to something one copies or refers to in making things - or something along those lines." (MO > 'ISqu' [1/15/2012])

tam substitute, exchange (v)
gheS assume duties of, take on responsibilities (v)
ru' be temporary (v)

Note the idiom {X nIb chenmoH}:

  De' nIb DachenmoHchugh bIquvHa'
To duplicate data is a great dishonor. (DCTF2)
