There is an apocryphal story about the homophonous verb {ghar}
"conduct diplomacy". According to the story, during a conference
between the Romulans, the Klingons, and the Federation, after a
particularly moving speech for peace and co-operation given by the
Romulan ambassador, the Federation envoy asked the Klingon diplomat
what he thought of the speech. The Klingon answered, {gharbej},
intending to give an understated compliment. The human allegedly
misheard this as "garbage", which was relayed back to the Romulan
party. The insult resulted in lasting enmity between the Romulan and
Klingon empires.
