> Klingon word: HeS
> Part of speech: noun
> Definition: crime

Used in canon:

  HeSmo'
  due to the crime KGT

Note the homophonous verb {HeS} "commit a crime" (which AFAIK has never appeared in canon) and the nomen agentis {HeSwI'} criminal (which has):

  vubpu' jonta' HeSwI'
A criminal has succeeded in taking hostages. (ST5 notes)

Trek trivia:

"You are now subjects of the Klingon Empire. You'll find there are many rules and regulations. They will be posted. Violation of the smallest of them will be punished by death. [....] From this day on, no public assemblages of more than three people. All publications to be cleared through this office. Neighborhood controls will be established, hostages selected. A somewhat lengthy list of crimes against the state." (Kor, TOS "Errand of Mercy")

The Klingon law of heredity (*g'now juk Hol pajhard* [sic!] "A son shall share in the honors or crimes of his father") would have required the execution of Worf and his brother Kurn for the treachery of their father, Mogh, had not those charges proven false. (TNG "Redemption I")

"James T. Kirk -- renegade and terrorist!" (Klingon ambassador, ST4)

"those who are found to have violated the rules of society are often punished by being forced to do particularly strenuous or distasteful work." (TKW 190)

Related words:

And finally here's a useful phrase to remember if you ever fall afoul of the authorities on a Klingon world:

  loHwI' vISuch 'e' vIpoQ!
I demand to see the magistrate! (ENT "Affliction")

Whether it will actually help is another question. IIRC it didn't help the prisoner in "Affliction". <g>
